Tahini pasta bowl

Have you tried pasta made from pulses that looks like rice yet? Well I have and I loved it. Mine was made from red lentils, chickpeas and peas and I made a vegan tahini pasta bowl with it. I added some mini macaroni, veggie balls, bell pepper, onion, garlic, garlic sprouts, fresh tomatoes and a sauce made with tahini and lemon to the bowl. It was such a nice and comforting bowl of food. A little splash of tahini and lemon can work wonders on any basic bowl.

I'm also including some live scenes from my tea towel to this post. January continues being grey and soggy here in Copenhagen, but the buildings are colourful and uplifting. We are off for a walk soon regardless the heavy winds.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Street Food om Søerne 2019

I had the pleasure of visiting this year's Street Food om Søerne street food festival by the Copenhagen Lakes. The festival took place last weekend and it was located close to our home, which is of course very convenient. There were a lot of vegan vendors this year, and many others had vegan or vegetarian options.

I had the best burger there that I've ever tasted, and it was made by Planteslagterne. I failed to ask what the juicy plantbased patty was made from, but in any case it tasted amazing. It was a cheese burger with pickled onions, lettuce and vegan mayo in a brioche bun.

One of my other favourites were vegan kebabs with organic, gluten free and soy free tempeh made from lupin beans. The tempeh was made by Foodture, and the kebabs were made by Simple Raw, a vegan restaurant in Copenhagen. The concept of making it from lupin beans is fascinating, #from flower to plant protein". It was such a nice combination with fresh veg and really tasty tempeh. The tempeh was quite authentic looking kebab, as it came from the traditional turning skewer. I think several vegan cafés in Copenhagen serve this tempeh, so I have the chance of finding it again.

We also had tasty fries from Green Fries, a Swedish company. They served lovely dips on side and you got to select a salt for the fries. I had fries with garlic salt and roasted onion mayo and truffle mayo. We've had these fries before, and every time they just hit the spot.

As drinks we enjoyed different craft beers from Mikkeller and organic cocktails from Rebæl.

We also got acquainted with a veg box subscription idea by Grim, where the “ugly” vegetables that are rejected by supermarkets are delivered to your door once a week. I think that's a great idea and I'm considering of joining. My only problem with veg boxes is that there are long months with cabbage in season. Don't get me wrong, I really like cabbage, but it's difficult to use a lot of it for two people. What are your experiences with veg boxes? Do they make meal planning easier or more complicated?

This year's festival's main sponsor was the supermarket chain Irma, and they had brought some colourful swan boats to our lakes. We normally only have white and black swan and duck boats. On those colourful boats you could take a tasting and talking ride with some of the vendors. I think this was also quite a neat idea.

I wanted to try so many things more, but couldn't fit more food or drink in. There were rye and potato burgers, vegetarian tacos and quesadillas, fresh salads and juices, vegan ice-cream and many more tempting dishes. I can't wait for next year, as it looks like the vegan festival doesn't take place in Copenhagen this year. Here are some atmosphere photos from the street food festival.

Veggie barbecue in the park

I told you yesterday that we were going to spend the day in the nearby park, as the weather was really nice and sunny. We actually ended up doing it, and I wanted to tell you a little bit about our veggie barbecue in the park. Our local park is the biggest in Copenhagen, and it's permitted to barbecue there. Most tables even have a metal griddle in the middle, which is handy for single-use barbecues. I really like the park, as it has different features: flower garden, playgrounds, football fields, a lake with loads of water birds. I hope you enjoy my photos from the place.

We bought this biodegradable and sustainable single-use grill, CasusGrill, and I was so curious to try it out. I quote from the CasusGrill website: “CasusGrill is made from cardboard lined with lava stone that both retains heat and reduces the risk of burns. The grill rack is made from bamboo.”

The grill was easy to assemble and to use, and it worked perfectly for our little vegetable barbecue. I can only recommend it, if you need to use a disposable grill. I ruined the ecological theme a bit by using foil for the potatoes and onions, and also cardboard plates, but better than nothing I guess. Those plastic wineglasses, by the way, I have used many times already after we got them at an event.

We barbecued veggie sausages, grill cheese, onions and pre-boiled new potatoes. On the side we had cherry tomatoes, fresh peas in pods and strawberries. We even had a couple of beers, ciders and a little bit of rosé wine with us.

It was a nice little picnic, even though our table was most of the time in the direct sun. Otherwise I was happy with the table we found in the busy park, as it was kind of a quiet corner next to trees. Next time I will bring my chess figures, if we can secure the same spot.

This morning started with heavy thunderstorm that is still continuing, or at least it's still raining. I'm glad that the plants got some water. It should clear up for later, but I'm not sure, if we can do as much outdoorsy stuff today. I would like to go for a walk at some point.

What about you, how has your weekend been? Is it hot where you are?

Street Food Festival København 2019

Last weekend there was a really nice street food festival in Hans Tavsens Park in the Nørrebro district of Copenhagen. There were about 30 food and drink stalls, and a lot of relaxing atmosphere. We got lucky with the weather as well on Saturday, as it had been a rainy day previously. We managed to get a lot of sunshine while we were at the festival.

There were quite a few vegan and vegetarian options: a tempeh dumpling workshop, vietnamese curries and spring rolls, vegan ice-cream, halloumi burgers, aranchini, falafel, vegan smørrebrød (Danish open sandwiches), craft beer and cocktails, just to mention a few.

Here are some of my snapshots that I took at the festival. I hope you like the atmosphere.
