Tattie scones for breakfast

Happy weekend everyone! I'm so happy that today has started sunny and energetic after a long, busy and somewhat annoying week at work. I've been too busy to post anything, but let's hope that I can catch up a bit during the weekend.

First thing this morning I went for a walk in the local park. It was nice and quiet there early in the morning, apart from a few joggers and dog walkers, and I felt so good afterwards for having exercised a bit. Here are a couple of photos from my walk as well. It's starting to be properly spring over here, even though couple of days this week were fairly chilly. I'm heading to town soon to the health food shop, but before that I wanted to share my breakfast with you.

I didn't have the healthiest breakfast today, as I had already planned yesterday to make some tattie scones. I've shared a tattie scone recipe a few times before (at least here and here). They are Scottish potato cakes fried in butter, quite naughty, but oh so tasty. Now I made them with a 50/50 spelt and rye flour mix to make them even more wholesome. I left the skins on the potatoes for a more rustic finish. It saves a lot of time, if you cook the potatoes the previous night, and this time I was well prepared. I made a fairly large batch, so have some left for tomorrow, perfect!

Enjoy your weekend!

Forest walk in New Forest

A few weeks back we visited the nearby New Forest and had a nice winter walk there. Back then it was still a bit icy, so it was a very refreshing and energising. It was quite unusual that those parts of the forest were so empty of people, as they are usually quite popular walking and cycling routes. I guess the weather kept the crowds away. That was even better for us, just us and the nature, bliss!

Of course we did some of the usual pony spotting. The ponies were wearing their thick winter coats and grazing happily. We also saw a large herd of deer, but they were too far away to take a photo. I didn't dare to approach them more, as they surely would have ran away.

I'm sorry that I didn't come around posting these photos earlier, but here they are now. In the meanwhile it's much more spring like already.

Autumn in my neighbourhood

I had the day off yesterday, which was very good. I decided to take my camera with me on my stroll to the shops. Luckily I didn't have to rush anywhere and the weather was wonderful. Well, in the morning at least, towards the midday it got almost too hot, as I prefer the crisp autumnal air. Autumn is my favourite season and I was delighted to look at its colours more closely yesterday. It's not this green everywhere around here, but I walked mainly through the parks, and I'm also lucky enough to live directly next to a small park.

So here are my photos from yesterdays town stroll, I hope you like them.

Jurassic Coast Walk – from Swanage to Studland

I went on a lovely walk last Saturday (sorry about the late posting, but I didn't have time to sort out my photos during the week). I did one of my favourite walks that I try to do a few times a year. It's a walk on the Jurassic Coast on the Isle of Purbeck from Swanage to Studland. The Jurassic Coast covers 95 miles of southern English coastline from county Devon to Dorset. It gets its name as there is a rich geological history of 185 million years there, with fossils and rock formations. It's a World Heritage Site recognised by UNESCO.

The scenery and countryside there is just amazing and last Saturday the weather was just perfect for a little walk, not too hot. This walk takes a couple of hours at moderate pace with stops admiring the wild flowers, the grazing livestock and the beautiful views. There is a good path throughout and even if you are a bit terrified of heights, you don't ever have to go too close to a cliff edge. It's advisable to stay away from them anyway, as there regularly are landslips.

One of the main attractions along this route are the Old Harry Rocks, amazing chalk cliffs.

We ended our walk as usual at the Bankes Arms pub in Studland. They have some excellent beers there from their own brewery and an amazing beer garden with a sea view.

Here are some of my photos from that walk. I hope that you'll like them. And have a great weekend!
