KERB does Alchemy

I visited KERB does Alchemy street food fest yesterday at the Southbank Centre in London. This particular food festival was especially dedicated to Indian, Pakistani, Nepalese, Sri Lankan, Bangladeshi and Afghan street food. There were so many vibrant stands, I especially loved this lassi and samosa truck, its look kind of summarises it all.

There were so many tempting veggie options that it was hard to choose what to eat. First of all we had Jackfruit Jalfrezi with brown basmati rice and mixed green salad from the Spicebox. It was my first time trying jackfruit ever and it was very nice, I will certainly be on a lookout for it. The jalfrezi was nice and spicy and all in all the dish was a very good combination. Regrettably I couldn't eat their Tandoori Cauliflower Steak anymore later, as I was too full. I hope to meet them somewhere else soon to be able to try the other dishes. They also have a takeaway in London serving the healthiest curries in the city.

Later my partner had a dosa from Horn OK Please. I've had this several times and I love the dish. I however needed something less spicy in the end, so decided to have just a good old mac'n'cheese by Anna Mae's.

What a great food market visit this was again, and the weather stayed surprisingly pleasant throughout.

Copenhagen Street Food

Copenhagen Street Food was a new place for me to visit and I'm so glad we went there. We ended up going a second time during our visit as the atmosphere and the food were so great and unique. Copenhagen Street Food is a collection of street food trucks and stands in a large hall on the Papirøen island between beautiful canals. The setting is amazing first of all and there are seats and tables outside as well to take all the scenery in and to relax. You can even sit by an open fire and spend time with your friends.

The hall is very quirky inside as well with all the different stands offering international food and drink. There were also a fair bit of really good vegetarian and vegan options: soups, pizza, pasta, Colombian veggie food, falafel, rice paper rolls, juices etc. It's a shame that we couldn't taste all of them. There also were a few bars serving beers and cocktails. All in all the selection was very proud and there was a real buzz around the place.

I was tempted by many vegetarian options, but first of all chose to go to Il Mattarello, who make organic fresh pasta portions. The first dish, pasta pomodoro with organic tomato sauce, oregano garlic and bread crumbs, was so tasty that I had to go back the next day. Then I had a similar tomato spaghetti dish with the addition of stracciatella cheese, a variety of soft stretched-curd Italian buffalo cheese. It was truly exquisite and the two entrepreneurs are so nice that it's a joy to eat their food and have a little chat. I was trying to convince my partner that we'd still be a little hungry and could get seconds, but he was right that it would've been too much. This only means that we'll have to return to them!

As a conclusion I can only say, do go there, if you're in Copenhagen, this place should be on every foodie's agenda.

Borough Market London

I went to Borough Market in London yesterday and had wonderful time hogging some veg there. There's so much good produce and street food on offer. I had my much beloved koshari for lunch accompanied by a New Forest cider. I also got some stuff to take home for cooking and some seeds for my balcony garden. I bought some tomatoes, oak smoked tomatoes, kohlrabi, smoked garlic, fresh garlic, a crown prince squash and some craft beers.

After Borough Market we continued to the Southbank Centre food market and spent the evening there. What a great day it was!

Here are some photos from Borough market. I hope you'll enjoy them. What are your favourite food markets?

Southbank Centre Food Market

One of the best pastimes for a foodie is to stroll along street food markets. I have written before about the Real Food Market by the Southbank Centre in London. Recently the Real Food Market moved away from there and the Southbank Centre themselves started operating a new market at the same location. First I was shocked to hear this, but obviously had to check the new market out.

I visited the new market last Saturday. Luckily some of my favourite vendors had stayed there, the likes of The Flour Station, Horn Ok Please, Somerset Ciders and Meantime Brewing Company. These used to be my most frequently visited traders anyway and I'm glad they stayed. The Flour Station makes the best rye bread I've had in this country and plenty more tempting looking loaves. Horn Ok Please is a vegetarian Indian food stall, only few things can beat their dosa, which can also be obtained as a vegan version. I also always have to have some Somerset cider, and possibly smoky cheese when I'm there.

Then there were some nice new acquaintances, for example The Dough Bros. I tried their portobello pizza and it was really lovely. There were also lovely scone and chutney stand, a spices stand and a craft beer shop, which I'll have to check out more closely the next time.

Unfortunately there wasn't a vegetable stand anymore, which is of course a great loss. I often used to get my fresh wild mushrooms and heirloom tomatoes there. I hope that they'll reconsider and a vegetable stall will appear there soon.

Anyway, I hope that I'll have time to visit there again this summer. Have you already been at the new market, or even at the old? What do you think of it?
