The Olympic
Games in Rio have started and there will be a huge variety of
sports to watch during the coming weeks. The events are well underway
and some countries have already bagged medals. I'm not an overly keen
viewer of summer sports, but I will watch the occasional discipline
and get carried away, if Finland gets any medals. Men's javelin is a
must-see event, as Finns usually are fairly good in it. Regardless of
all the controversy related to the games, I think it's nice to see
nations come together amicably and compete in sports.
I was inspired to
make a salad in the spirit of the Olympics. So here is the unofficial
salad of the Olympic Games in Rio trying the replicate the colours of
the Olympic flag with vegetables.
These are the
veggies representing the different colours:
Blue: rosini
lettuce, purple basil and purple chilli chopped up
Black: black
olives
Red: red bell
pepper
Yellow: roasted
gem squash
Green: fresh peas
Are you watching
the games and what countries are you supporting?
I also want to
share this salad with the No Croutons Required soup and salad
cooking challenge. The challenge is hosted this month by Lisa from
Lisa's Kitchen and co-hosted by Jacqueline from Tinned Tomatoes.

So cute, I saw similar salads a few years back when the Olympics came to London. Every food blogger was getting creating with the Olympic flag, even one made with bread and cakes! I love the freshness of yours though, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes, just a little bit fun in the kitchen. Sundays are great for such gimmicks. :)
DeleteI was thinking how to get the Olympics into a blogpost. Your salad idea is great!
ReplyDeleteThe gymnastics (particularly the mens) always amazes me. The strength of their arms! I am no gymnast and at 50 am unlikely to become one (!) but I wish I could somersault down a path sometimes! Go Team GB!
Thank you for your comment Belinda! I watched some of the gymnastics yesterday and it was truly amazing. Some of these sports are just incredible to master, well all of them at that level of course...
Deletethis is really cute - and admirable given how hard it is to find the colours in food - why isn't there a blue food!! I just saw it and wish I had seen it during the games which now seem so far away - I loved the gymnastics and some of the water events - the diving is amazing - so far and so scary!
ReplyDeleteYes the blue one was really tricky to do, so had to compromise a bit. Blueberries would've done, I guess. I watched some of the games, but a bit less than I thought I would. It was good fun again, though.
DeleteThat's quite creative and refreshing. Thanks for sharing with NCR. The roundup should be up shortly.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lisa! I thought I'd make something slightly different for a change. :)
